Jesse Howard
Jesse Howard was being held in the Mariana jail in Mariana, Arkansas, when he died on May 26, 1883. An armed group of citizens entered the jail, took him out, and carried him a short distance, intending to hang him. When he ran, they shot and killed him, and the jail watchman was slightly wounded while trying to protect him.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. An armed party of citizens entered the Mariana jail, took Jesse Howard out intending to hang him, and riddled his body with buckshot after he ran.
