Jenny

died January 2017 · Lakin Correctional Center, West Virginia

Jenny was held at Lakin Correctional Center and Jail in West Virginia, where, according to Deborah Ujevich, who knew her there, she complained of persistent breast pain that staff were slow to take seriously. Ujevich said Jenny was diagnosed with breast cancer only after her condition visibly worsened, and that her chemotherapy was delayed. Jenny was released in late 2016 and spent Christmas with her family, and she died the following January; Ujevich said the cause was breast cancer. Ujevich remembers how badly Jenny wanted to be free and how frightened she was of dying in prison.
