Jeffrey Ferguson
Missouri executed Jeffrey Ferguson by lethal injection at the state prison in Bonne Terre on March 26, 2014, and he was pronounced dead at 12:11 a.m. Supporters said he had become deeply religious during his years in prison, counseled other men held there and helped start a prison hospice program, and his attorney said he was an alcoholic. In his final statement he apologized to the victim's family and said he prayed they would find peace, and his two daughters watched from the observation room. His attorneys made last-minute appeals, including a challenge to the state's refusal to disclose where it obtained the execution drug, but the U.S. Supreme Court, the 8th Circuit and the governor declined to halt the execution. Witnesses told news media that he moved his feet, took a few breaths and then stopped breathing.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state
