Jawara McIntosh
Jawara McIntosh was a son of the reggae musician Peter Tosh, and a performer and advocate in his own right. In early 2017, while he was held at the Bergen County Jail in New Jersey, another person held there attacked him, and he sustained a brain injury. He spent the years after in a coma and then at home without recovering, and he died at home on July 17, 2020. His family sued the jail in 2019, saying it failed to protect him, and they attribute his brain injury to the altercation.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody (neglect alleged). His family's lawsuit says the Bergen County Jail failed to protect him from an attack by another inmate that caused the brain injury.
Reported by: Tosh family, who sued the Bergen County Jail (family or their lawyers).
Lawsuit: His family sued the Bergen County Jail in 2019 for failing to protect him from an attack by another inmate.
