Jason Philibert
Jason Philibert, 38, was held at Greene Correctional Facility in New York, where he died in his cell in the early hours of December 15, 2023. His wife, Ashley Philibert, says that during a video call he spent about three hours begging nurses and officers for treatment for throat pain and trouble breathing, and that staff took no action, according to a notice of claim filed with the New York Court of Claims by her attorney, Rachel Black. She describes him as her partner in life and best friend, someone very active who moved from basketball to soccer, and says he is survived by two daughters. An autopsy found that an infection had swelled his epiglottis and blocked his airway. The state prison system says the case is under investigation.
