Jason Lane Lopez, 53, of Wills Point, died on September 5, 2025. A state report released October 3 said he had a medical episode while he was restrained in a hobble device during transport and booking at the Van Zandt County Jail. He was taken to hospitals in Canton and Tyler, where he died. The state is investigating his death.
