Jasmine Williams

29 years old · died November 14, 2021 · Cibola County Correctional Center, Cibola County, New Mexico

Jasmine Williams, 29, was the mother of a six-year-old daughter. She had worked hard to get sober and planned to become an esthetician, and family and friends remember her big laugh and kind heart. She was held at the Cibola County Correctional Center in Milan, New Mexico, a facility run by CoreCivic, and was found dead in her cell on November 14, 2021. A medical examiner report obtained by The Guardian attributed her death to the toxic effects of methamphetamine, fentanyl, codeine and morphine, and the Guardian reported that the scene was reportedly compromised before police arrived and that security footage from her last hours was deleted. Her family's wrongful death lawsuit against CoreCivic is ongoing.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (disputed; neglect alleged). The medical examiner ruled the death a toxic effects overdose of methamphetamine, fentanyl, codeine and morphine, but her family's wrongful death lawsuit against CoreCivic disputes the account and says the scene was compromised before police arrived and security footage from her last hours was deleted.

Reported by: Medical examiner (report obtained by the Guardian) (medical examiner or coroner); Her family's wrongful death lawsuit against CoreCivic (family or their lawyers).

Lawsuit: Jasmine Williams's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against CoreCivic, which remains ongoing with no amount reported.
