Jarray D. Birdon
Jarray D. Birdon, 38, died on June 7, 2024, after being held at High Desert State Prison in Susanville, California. According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, he was involved in a fight with another incarcerated person on June 5, and staff used a less-lethal 40mm impact round and chemical agents to stop it. He was taken to an outside hospital and died there two days later, and the department said his injuries came from the physical altercation. The department says the death is under investigation by the Office of the Inspector General and the Office of Internal Affairs, and that the officer who fired the impact round has been placed on administrative leave.
