Jamie Prim

34 years old · died February 10, 2019 · Brookwood Hospital (from St. Clair Correctional Facility), St. Clair County, Alabama

Jamie Prim was 34 years old, and in November 2018 he had been granted parole so he could go home and live with his sister in Baldwin County, Alabama. He never made it there. Months earlier, in June 2018, he had been assaulted at Fountain Correctional Facility and left with a traumatic brain injury and paralysis; according to the Equal Justice Initiative, he was then moved to St. Clair Correctional Facility, where he did not receive the therapeutic care he needed and his condition worsened. He died in a hospital on February 10, 2019, before his release had been processed.

Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody (neglect alleged). The Equal Justice Initiative says he died of complications from a June 2018 assault at Fountain Correctional Facility and that staff gave him inadequate medical care, leaving his condition to worsen.

Reported by: Equal Justice Initiative (advocates).
