James T. Casey
James T. Casey was twenty years old and well liked, and a large gathering of friends followed his remains to the Mission Dolores cemetery, where he rests under a handsome monument. In May 1856 he was held in the San Francisco city jail when members of the San Francisco Vigilance Committee took him from it to the committee's rooms. The Richmond Dispatch account says the committee then hanged him in public from its windows after King's burial, and that he prayed for God's forgiveness before he died. According to the account, he asked in his last words that his aged mother not be told he had committed murder.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
