James Osgood
James Osgood, 55, was executed by lethal injection in Alabama on April 24, 2025, at a state prison. Friends knew him as "Taz," and he told the AP he regretted the pain he caused the victim's family. The Equal Justice Initiative says his jury never fully weighed evidence of his childhood abuse, neglect, and depression and suicidal thoughts as a teenager, and that his lawyers presented none of it at a later hearing. Alabama authorities and the Governor's Office confirmed the execution, and Governor Kay Ivey said she would not use her clemency powers in the case.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. Equal Justice Initiative argues the jury never fully weighed evidence of his childhood abuse, neglect, and mental health history, and that his lawyers presented none of it at a later hearing.
Reported by: Alabama Department of Corrections (the agency that held him); Gov. Kay Ivey's news release; Governor's Office; Equal Justice Initiative (advocates).
