James Macklin (alias Taylor)
A dispatch from Louisville, printed in the Daily Ohio Statesman in June 1868, reports that a mob took James Macklin, a Black man, from the jail at Frankfort and hanged him. He was in the custody of that jail when the mob came for him. Four men were later arrested by United States authorities over his murder and admitted to bail, and the case was continued to the next term. The dispatch describes the killing as the work of the mob that broke into the jail.
