James Lawrence Pittman
James Pittman, 46, was a former Oceanside resident held at the Vista Detention Facility in San Diego County. Sources differ on the timeline: one report says he was found unconscious on his cell floor after falling from the top bunk, then taken to the facility clinic and on to Palomar Medical Center, where he was treated in intensive care until he died on February 27, 2025. Another report says his cellmate found him in apparent medical distress on February 14, that jail medical staff evaluated him, and that paramedics took him to Palomar Medical Center Escondido. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office, through Lt. Michael Krugh, said the medical examiner had not yet determined a cause or manner of death, while a later account attributed to the medical examiner's office gave the cause as blunt force head injury and the manner as an accident.
