James Kauffman
James Kauffman, 68, from Linwood, New Jersey, died on July 4, 2025, in his cell at the Hudson County Correctional Center in Kearny, where he was being held before trial. A Hudson County Correctional Center spokesperson said he died of an apparent suicide at about 9:20 a.m. Sources told 6abc that he left a lengthy note and was found face down with a sheet around his neck. He had been moved there from another jail for his own protection and was alone in the cell because his bunkmate was at a court appearance. The Atlantic County authorities said their investigation was continuing.
