James Homer Elledge

58 years old · died August 28, 2001 · Washington State Penitentiary, Walla Walla County, Washington

James H. Elledge was 58. He told a prison interview that he was a Christian and believed God had forgiven him. He waived further appeals and declined a sedative before the State of Washington executed him by lethal injection at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla in August 2001, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Assistant Attorney General Gregory Rosen described the method as a combination of four chemicals. Through the night he met with his lawyer and a prison chaplain, and his family honored his wishes and did not attend or intervene, while supporters and opponents of the death penalty gathered outside the prison.
