James Gorman
James Gorman was being held in the Big Horn County jail at Basin, Wyoming, when a mob of about fifty masked men fired into the building and battered down its doors on July 19, 1903. Several newspaper accounts say he was shot several times in his cell and left for dead, and that he lived until that forenoon before he died. The Wyoming Tribune reported that a deputy was killed in the attack. The papers differ on how the mob got in, and according to one account the sheriff had earlier moved the prisoners out of the jail for safety.
