James Gore

74 years old · Washington County Detention Center, Washington County, Arkansas

James Edward Gore, 74, was held at the Washington County Detention Center in Arkansas, where the Washington County Sheriff's Department says he stopped breathing while being moved to an ambulance. His attorney's later court filing described a tumor removal, progressive dementia and cognitive decline, and said he could no longer communicate. A judge had agreed to reduce his bond so he could be released to hospice care before he died. His family says authorities should have moved faster to get him into appropriate end-of-life care, while the prosecuting attorney called the situation unavoidable. The Arkansas State Police will investigate the death.
