James Fielding Brewer

died 1864

James Fielding Brewer was a native of Christian County, Kentucky, the son of Joseph A. Brewer, who ran Brewers Mill on the banks of Little River. A 1903 Hopkinsville Kentuckian account, written nearly four decades after the events, remembers him as a brave and valiant soldier who served as a Confederate captain in 1864 in a command led by Col. Johnson. That account says he was shot and killed on the day he was captured, one of two men shot that fall. The shooting is the only cause of death the account gives, and it is a retrospective recollection rather than a contemporary record.

Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined. The 1903 Hopkinsville Kentuckian retrospective account says he was shot on the day he was captured, but it does not say who shot him.

Reported by: Hopkinsville Kentuckian, 1903 retrospective account (reporters).
