James Elledge
James Homer Elledge, 58, told a prison interview that he was a Christian and believed God had forgiven him. He met with his lawyer and a prison chaplain through the night before he was executed by lethal injection at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, which the state Department of Corrections dates to August 28, 2001. He declined a sedative and made no last words. He had waived further appeals, though his lawyers were ready to file them had he changed his mind. His family honored his wishes and did not attend or intervene, and supporters and opponents of the death penalty gathered outside the prison.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state
Reported by: Washington State Department of Corrections (the agency that held him); Assistant Attorney General Gregory Rosen.
