James Clark, 56, died on October 19, 2020, at a hospital after being held at Pender Correctional Institution in Burgaw, North Carolina. The state prison system said he tested positive for COVID-19, had underlying health conditions, and was hospitalized on September 29, 2020. The prison system announced his death and said it was the third COVID-19 death at the prison.
