James Clark Jr. was 55 and held at William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer. He was found in his cell and declared dead just before 7 a.m. on May 12, 2024. The Jefferson County coroner said there was no sign of criminal activity and that the final cause of death awaited laboratory results.
