James Barton died at the Hamilton County jail, where he was held, and his death is attributed to a drug overdose. His mother, Rosie Christian, has since campaigned about heroin addiction and about helping people struggling with addiction and their families. She organized a block party in Walnut Hills to offer hope to people struggling with addiction and people experiencing homelessness. She says she promised her son she would try to help his friends who were living on the streets.
