Jake Farmer
Jake Farmer was being taken by the sheriff to the Dresden jail in April 1871 when, according to a Dresden resident's letter, a party of unknown men seized him from the sheriff at Ralston and hanged him. A correspondent writing to the Union and American said the men hanged him that day a few miles from Dresden, and that he should have been left to the law rather than taken by mob violence. The letter says the group came from the direction of Fulton, Kentucky, and that none of its members were identified.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A letter writer from Dresden says a party of unknown men took Jake Farmer from the sheriff at Ralston and hanged him, and a second correspondent to the Union and American says the same.
Reported by: letter writer from Dresden (reporters); correspondent writing to the Union and American from Dresden (reporters).
