Jake Childers, 36, was in the custody of a county jail in Live Oak County, Texas. The Live Oak County sheriff's office said he got into an altercation with guards and escaped. The article reports that before the escape he had complained of pain and had been taken to a hospital, and that he got out through a window in a transport vehicle. The sheriff's office said officers shot and killed him in a shootout in Campbellton, about 50 miles south of San Antonio, on Tuesday night, December 27, 2016.
