Jaime Galvan
Jaime Galvan, a 33-year-old Hispanic man, died on February 10, 2006, while held at the Chicago police facility at Homan Square. Family and friends describe him as a devoted father and son who took his children to school each morning and picked them up afterward, and as a joker and a great friend. Police said he was found unresponsive in a holding cell and died of a drug overdose, and the Cook County medical examiner's office listed the death as an accident from opiate intoxication. An independent autopsy commissioned by the family found neck abrasions and facial bruising, and the family and a co-arrestee believe he was beaten to death in custody, an account police have not accepted.
