Not found on the Texas Attorney General’s published list of deaths in custody.

Jacqueline Barocio, 25, was found dead in her cell at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Cameron County, Texas, on October 21, 2023. She left behind a 1-year-old and a 6-year-old, and her family says they want to know everything about her death. Her family says she had complained of a painful wisdom tooth for about two months and that guards did not get her medical care; they say a nurse gave her antibiotics, but she should have been taken to a hospital. The Cameron County Sheriff's Office said there were no visible injuries and ordered an autopsy, and the Texas Rangers are investigating. The sheriff's office had not responded to requests for comment.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (disputed; neglect alleged). The autopsy found fentanyl poisoning and ruled the death accidental, while her family says guards did not get her medical care for a painful wisdom tooth and should have taken her to a hospital.
