Jacorey Shaw

26 years old · died September 6, 2018 · Sierra Conservation Center, Tuolumne County, California

Jacorey Shaw, 26, was training to join a California fire camp program, and according to the article he had no known health problems before his death. He collapsed at Sierra Conservation Center in Jamestown after about two and a half hours of physical fitness testing for the firefighter training program and was pronounced dead a little over an hour later. An autopsy by Stanislaus County forensic pathologist Dr. Sung-ook Baik listed the death as natural, caused by an undiagnosed heart condition. His parents' federal lawsuit alleges a heat-related illness, a flawed autopsy and a cover-up by county and prison staff; the defendants have not admitted these allegations, and the county says it is investigating them.
