Jackie Wiley
Jackie Wiley was known around Hutchins State Jail for his bubbly humor, and his sister remembers him as tenderhearted and protective. He had become certified as an electrician and HVAC technician, and his wife, Chrystal Stanley, said he wrote their wedding vows himself. On May 25, 2024, during Memorial Day weekend, he collapsed in a hot, unventilated dormitory at the jail and was pronounced dead at the infirmary about 40 minutes later. The Dallas County Medical Examiner determined he died from the toxic effects of synthetic cannabinoids, and the Texas Attorney General's custodial death report lists the manner of death as accidental, but his wife says staff were slow to respond and that she was not told the cause of death for months.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (neglect alleged). The Dallas County Medical Examiner found he died from the toxic effects of synthetic cannabinoids, and his wife says staff were slow to respond after he collapsed.
Reported by: Dallas County Medical Examiner (medical examiner or coroner); Texas Office of the Attorney General (outside investigators).
