Jackie Elliott
Jackie Elliott was born in Suffolk, England, and moved to Texas as a six-month-old baby. Days before the execution, his son, John Elliott Jr., said he did not know if he would be able to bear watching his father die. The State of Texas executed Jackie Elliott by lethal injection at Huntsville Prison on February 4, 2003, and his sister and brother-in-law were among the relatives present. His lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, had fought to stop the execution up to the last day. The BBC had interviewed Jackie Elliott only days before he died.
