Jack “Jay” Farmer
Jack "Jay" Farmer, 43, of Bloomington, was held in the Greene County Jail, where his family says he cared for others in his final days, folding blankets, giving a dog food and water, and removing a mouse from a trap. The Indiana State Police say he hanged himself with a telephone cord during recreation time in the jail's I pod, that camera footage shows the incident, and that an officer responded about twenty minutes later. He died on July 23, 2023, and was removed from life support at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville on July 29. His family says jail staff failed to prevent his death and that he should have been on suicide watch and not left unsupervised.
