Jack Hall
Jack Hall was a longtime patient at the Iowa State Penitentiary, where he developed double pneumonia and chose a do-not-resuscitate order. He entered the prison's hospice program, run by fellow prisoners, and died after about two days of vigil with his family and friends from inside the prison present. According to the filmmaker Edgar Barens, who recorded his final months for the documentary Prison Terminal, his family visited him weekly and his son and other relatives were with him in his last days. Barens attributed the death to terminal illness in an interview with the International Documentary Association.
