Isaac Brandon
Isaac Brandon, a 43-year-old Black man, was held in the Charles City Jail in Charles City County, Virginia. On April 6, 1892, a mob of about 75 masked men took him from the jail, brought him to the courthouse yard and hanged him from a tree. Accounts say he maintained his innocence to the end, and that he was married and the father of eight children. A jury later found that he died at the hands of an unknown party, and no one was charged in his death. The Richmond Planet criticized local officials and the governor for failing to investigate the lynching.
