Huabing Xie
Huabing Xie, a Chinese immigrant, died in late September 2025 while held in immigration custody at the Imperial Regional Detention Facility in Calexico, California. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said he had an apparent seizure and was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. ICE later said he appeared to have suffered sudden heart complications, but it declined to give further details, citing an ongoing investigation. Advocates said they have been unable to reach his friends or family and have asked for more information and an independent investigation into the circumstances of his death and the facility's medical care.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (disputed). ICE said Xie had a seizure and then a cardiovascular event, and advocates say the circumstances remain unclear and call for an independent investigation.
Reported by: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (the agency that held him); advocates.
