Died in jail or a lockup
Hosier
Hosier was held in the jail at Cheyenne, Wyoming, in September 1883. According to the Delta Chief, a mob took him from his cell on the morning of September 10 and hanged him from a telegraph pole until he died. A Delaware State Journal account says the mayor and the territorial secretary tried to stop the mob but could not. Neither account says whether jail staff resisted the mob or handed him over.
