Hodge
Hodge, a Black man, was held in the jail in Tyler, Texas, when a mob took him out and hanged him from scaffolding near the unfinished courthouse on May 1, 1909. The Morgan County Republican reported that the wrong man had been hanged, and it called the killing murder. The same paper reported that a company of Texas Rangers later fired over the heads of a crowd that was trying to take nine other men held in the same jail over the killing.
