Harmon Adkins
Harrison Adkins was held in the Carlisle jail in Nicholas County, Kentucky, in the spring of 1874. On the night of May 1, 1874, a group of masked, armed men came to the jail, and the Nashville Union and American reported that the jailer talked with them briefly and then gave up the keys after being threatened. The mob took Harrison from his cell and hanged him from the timbers of a railroad bridge near the town. The Nashville paper reported that townspeople cut his body down and held an inquest, and that many citizens deplored the killing, saying the guilt of the accused was doubtful.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. The Kentucky Gazette reports a mob took him from the Carlisle jail and hanged him from a railroad bridge timber, and the Lexington Press says the jailer handed over the keys after threats.
