Henry Wildman
Henry Wildman was held in the county jail at Monticello, Illinois, when a mob of about 200 men broke in, took him and killed him, according to a 1914 Atlanta Georgian report of an event about 27 years earlier. The mob was not identified at the time, and the killing was nearly forgotten until Reason Trigg, a former farmer, confessed in January 1914 that he had taken part and surrendered to county authorities. Trigg said he had helped but refused to name anyone else in the mob.
