Henry Weaver
Henry Weaver was one of three brothers held under guard at Sheriff Couch's residence in Anthony, Kansas, in April 1886, and his mother was present when a mob came for them and begged the men to spare her sons. The Wichita Daily Eagle reported that a mob from Danville disarmed the sheriff and took the prisoners to a partly built schoolhouse to hang them, and that bells rung by citizens drove the mob off before they shot the brothers. The Emporia Weekly News reported instead that about forty armed men attacked the house in the early morning, placed ropes around the men's necks, and fired fifteen or twenty shots into each man. The two papers disagree on the timing and details of the attack, and the coroner's inquest was still pending in the reports.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A mob of armed men attacked the sheriff's residence in Anthony, Kansas, where Henry Weaver was held under guard, and shot him, according to the Emporia Weekly News and an Anthony correspondent's dispatch to the Wichita Daily Eagle.
