Henry Mutchler, Jr. died on November 12, 1895, when guards at the Tiffin jail in Ohio shot him, according to the Abbeville Press and Banner. The paper reported that he was part of a group that overpowered the sheriff and tried to reach a prisoner held in a cell. The paper said guards fired after warnings to the group failed, and that Mutchler was killed while the group was working to break through the barred door.
