Henry Mosher
Henry Mosher was held in the jail at Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory, in September 1883. Several 1883 newspaper accounts say a crowd of masked men took him from the jail in the early morning of September 17 and hanged him from a telegraph pole near the center of the city. One report, from the Narragansett Herald, says the mayor and other influential citizens pleaded with the crowd to stop, and a Western Associated Press dispatch says Secretary Morgan and Mayor Craig tried to halt it. The accounts differ on the date and on some details of the event.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. Masked men took Henry Mosher from the Cheyenne jail and hanged him from a telegraph pole, according to newspaper dispatches from 1883; the mayor and other citizens pleaded against it, but the crowd went ahead.
