Heard

Heard was a miner held at the county jail near Jasper, Alabama, in January 1921. According to an Associated Press report carried by the Evening Public Ledger, a mob took Heard from the jail early in the morning and shot Heard to death about three miles from Jasper. The jailer and military authorities at first believed friends had rescued Heard from the jail, until a rural mail carrier found the body.

Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. An Associated Press report says a mob took Heard from the Walker County jail near Jasper, Alabama, and later shot him about three miles away.
