Gustavo Garcia, 43, was executed by lethal injection at the Huntsville Unit in Huntsville, Texas, on February 16, 2016, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The Texas Tribune reported that he had spent more than 24 years on death row and was pronounced dead at 6:26 p.m. after a lethal dose of pentobarbital. His spiritual advisor was with him, and on his final day he visited with family and friends. His last words were to his mother, telling her he loved her and asking her to stay strong.
