Gregory Hunt
Gregory Hunt, 65 according to the Equal Justice Initiative, was executed by the State of Alabama on June 10, 2025, at Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, using nitrogen gas. Opponents of the death penalty said he spent much of his time in prison introducing fellow prisoners to the teachings of Jesus. The Alabama Department of Corrections carried out the execution, and the governor's office announced the time of death. Media witnesses reported that he gasped and moved before long pauses in his breathing. Before the execution, opponents delivered a petition asking the governor to reconsider, and the Equal Justice Initiative argues the case reflects inadequate defense counsel, a witness whose charges were dropped after testifying, and non-unanimous jury verdicts.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. One article argues his case reflects inadequate defense counsel and non-unanimous jury verdicts, and death-penalty opponents asked the governor to reconsider before the execution.
