Died in jail or a lockup
Gregory Faircloth
Gregory Faircloth, a 61-year-old man, was held in the medical unit of the Union County jail in North Carolina because of several pre-existing health conditions. According to Sheriff Eddie Cathey's office, he became unresponsive while jail medical staff were treating him just before 4 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, and was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The sheriff said no foul play is suspected and asked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to conduct an independent investigation into the death.
