Gloria Hemingway
Gloria Hemingway, a transgender woman and the youngest daughter of author Ernest Hemingway, became a doctor, and friends and family described her as kind, gentle, charming and compassionate. Her wife, Ida Mae Galliher, stayed with her until the end. Gloria died on October 1, 2001, at age 69, in a private cell at the Miami-Dade Women's Detention Center in Miami, Florida. One news report gave heart disease as the cause of death.
