Glen Williams Jr.

39 years old · died January 10, 2024 · Cuyahoga County Corrections Center, Cuyahoga County, Ohio

Glen Williams Jr., 39, was held at the Cuyahoga County Jail in Ohio. His aunt, Tanya Anderson, said he often moved between Ohio and New York, had a history of mental illness, and that the family searched for him over the Christmas season before jail staff told them he had died. On January 10, 2024, he collapsed in a common room, and video shows more than nine minutes passed before jail workers started CPR. He died at MetroHealth Medical Center, and the county medical examiner, Dr. Thomas Gilson, attributed the death to a ruptured aorta. The jail says its staff responded promptly, while outside medical experts who reviewed the video say the response was delayed.

Cause of death, as reported: Died from neglect by staff (disputed). The medical examiner ruled a ruptured aorta caused the death, but outside medical experts who reviewed video say the jail's delayed response to his collapse contributed, while the jail says staff responded promptly.

Reported by: Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Gilson (medical examiner or coroner); Cuyahoga County Jail (the agency that held him); outside medical experts who reviewed the video.
