Gerard Barnes, 21, died on November 22, 2021, after he was found unresponsive at the Alamance County jail in North Carolina. The jail's press release said staff could not revive him, and that a medical examiner had not yet announced a cause of death. It also said another man held there had been found unresponsive and treated for an apparent overdose about an hour earlier, and that it was not yet known whether Barnes had overdosed.
