George W. Thompson
George W. Thompson was hanged at Lower Sandusky on July 12, 1844, in an execution that the Milan Tribune said broke a recent state law abolishing public executions. According to the paper, a crowd tore down the temporary enclosure around the gallows, and the sheriff did not resist or call for help to stop it. Before his death, Thompson made a few remarks expressing sorrow and urging others to avoid similar wrongs. His body was taken to Tiffin for burial in the Catholic burying ground.
