Executed
George H. Jacks
George H. Jacks was hanged on October 14, 1898, after being held in a jail. A newspaper account published in December 1898 says a small fox terrier puppy that had been allowed into his cell stayed with him the day before, and that the dog howled when carpenters began building the scaffold. The article describes the puppy as his friend and presents these details as folklore rather than established fact. The guards let the dog stay in his cell with him before the execution.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state
Reported by: the 1898 newspaper article (reporters).
