George Greene

George Greene was one of ten men a mob took from a jail, according to a dispatch reprinted by the Knoxville Weekly Chronicle in September 1874. The dispatch says his body was found in a river-bottom about a mile from town and lists him among those the mob murdered. The account names no one who held him in the jail and does not describe how the jail's keepers responded to the mob.

Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A Knoxville Weekly Chronicle dispatch, reprinting another report, lists George Greene among ten men a mob took from a jail and murdered.

Reported by: Knoxville Weekly Chronicle, reprinting a dispatch (reporters).
